Discover the ancient culture of the pharaohs during a Nile cruise with your personal guide. The cruise starts in Luxor and goes to Aswan and back to Luxor.
Luxor – Aswan – Luxor
3 Hours Before Flight Time
Flight to Luxor, Hurghada or Marsa Alam. Transfer to your ship and embarkation. Dinner and accommodation on Board.
Located on the west bank of the Nile across from Luxor, Thebes West offers a variety of attractions and ancient sites. Here you visit the Valley of the Kings with 64 rock tombs of the most famous pharaohs of Egypt. You will visit three tombs and be amazed by the highly developed culture and art from this heyday of Egypt.
Then there is a visit to the terrace temple of Hatshepsut. A work of art with a special and unusual style of Egyptian architecture. On the way back you stop at the mighty Memnon Colossi, which Pharaoh Amenhotep III had built and which are known as the guardians of Thebes West.
After the excursion, the ship sets off in the direction of Esna and passes the lock in Esna (approx. 60 km south of Luxor). Continue to Edfu and overnight in Edfu.
In Edfu you will visit the Temple of Horus. This temple is the best preserved temple in Egypt. It was built by the Ptolemies for the falcon god Horus. The temple is so well preserved that you can see all the elements of the ancient Egyptian temple.
The ship then continues to Kom Ombo. There you will visit the double temple of the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Haroeris. A lot of interesting things can be seen here, such as the Nile knife or Nilometer, the oldest calendar in Egypt, the medical instruments and the mummification museum.
The ship then sails to Aswan where you will spend the night.
Aswan is one of the most beautiful cities in Egypt. The Nile cataracts and the nature reserve underline this statement.
First you drive to the Aswan High Dam, while you cross the old dam. This was built in the British colonial times. Later the high dam was built. This high dam is a huge structure that damms the Nile into the huge Lake Nasser.
Then take a small boat to Agilika Island. The Isis Temple (Philae Temple) is located here today. This temple used to stand on Philae Island. However, due to the construction of the new dam, the temple had to be “relocated”, otherwise it would have sunk in the dammed water. So it was rebuilt on the island of Agilika.
Afterwards you will visit a granite quarry, which was already used in the times of the Pharaohs. So for many millennia it was used to make granite obelisks. This is also where the “Unfinished Obelisk” is located, which you can admire.
In the early morning you drive from Aswan to Abu Simbel. This trip takes about 3 hours by bus through the desert. The two rock temples of Abu Simbel, with their unique style, are considered the masterpieces of ancient Egypt. One of the miracles is the incidence of sunlight. Exactly twice a year, on the birthday and throne day of Ramses II, the figures of the gods in the Holy of Holies are illuminated by sunlight. The second miracle is the relocation of the two temples to a higher location, as otherwise the dammed up water of Lake Nasser would have flooded both temples. This happened between 1964 and 1968 after the construction of the new dam.
Then it’s back to Aswan. Depending on the time of day, you can experience a mirage on this trip. Once in Aswan, you can relax on the ship for the rest of the day.
The ship goes back to Luxor. On this day you have the opportunity to fully enjoy the beautiful Nile landscapes and can calmly process all the impressions you have gathered.
On the last day you will visit the temple complex of Karnak. This facility is one of the largest places of worship in the world. In the middle is the huge columned hall, which was built up from 134 columns.
The second visit of the day is the Luxor Temple. This is connected to the Karnak Temple by a 3 km long Sphinx avenue.
With a church and a mosque, this place is multicultural and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
